The Recreation Advisory Board's purpose is to assist other town agencies in meeting the recreational needs of the community. The Board works closely with the Director of Recreation, the Town Administrator, the Department of Public Works, as well as the School Facilities Department, and the Athletic Director. The Recreation Advisory Board also advises the Town Administrator, Finance Committee and Town Council regarding the expenditure of monies from the Fletcher Fund. The Recreation Advisory Board meets monthly to discuss issues pertaining to youth recreation,
development of additional playing fields, field dedications, and spring/fall field allocations.
During the past year the Recreation Advisory Board worked on the following:
1. The completion of a needs assessment for youth athletic fields based on current and future participation numbers in youth sports.
2. The completion of a feasibility study regarding natural grass vs. synthetic turf at athletic facilities in the future.
3. The implementation of a field and facility use policy addressing profit organizations.
4. Meadowlark Lane Athletic Field development
5. The completion of phase II of the signage project at all recreation sites.
6. The monitoring of capital projects at Lincoln Street "Dacey's Field," and Beaver Pond/Chilson Beach Complex.
7. Recommended ex-officio member Tim Maio as the Recreation Advisory Boards liaison to the Public Land Use Committee.
Goals of the Recreation Advisory Board
 Development of additional playing fields.  Continued partnership with the Department of Public Works Grounds and Maintenance Division, as well as the School Facilities Department and their efforts to maintain all town and school fields.  Bring all recreational facilities into Americans with Disabilities Act, making facilities accessible to all users. Members of the Recreation Advisory Board are: Chairman, Wayne Simarrian, Larry Pollard, Paul Socci, Marak Eccher, and Jim Leary. Ex-officio members include: Kevin Sayward, Tim Maio, David Sotille, Mark Williams, Joe Gallagher, Hugh McNally, and Brad Sidwell.
