Twitter is a free online service for friends, family, and co-workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent updates.
It's a way that information can be sent in real time, does not have to be formalized, does not take the place of a press release, but offers some interesting facts and updates about programs we may be running, information we may want to share, or updates to our website.
Using Twitter is going to change the way you think about staying in touch with friends and family or coworkers. Did you know you can send and receive Twitter updates via mobile texting, instant message, or the web?
The New York Times calls Twitter "one of the fastest-growing phenomena on the Internet." TIME Magazine says, "Twitter is on its way to becoming the next killer app," and Newsweek noted that "Suddenly, it seems as though all the world's a-twitter."
The Franklin Police Department is a participating member in Twitter. We can send important information, updates etc at the click of the computer mouse.
Twitter doesn't charge anything for this, but be sure to know what your text plan looks like with your wireless carrier; they may charge you text messaging fees.
